Join us in Melbourne for...FLOW 28-10 February 2012FLOW 2 is hosted by the Melbourne School of Design (MSD) at the University of Melbourne, Australia in conjunction with the Modern Interiors Research Centre (MIRC), United Kingdom. The FLOW 2 conference focuses on interiors and landscapes that arise from the emergence of increasingly fluid and virtual spatial environments. FLOW 2 is the second of the two-conference investigation into the transitional and intermediary relationships between interiors and landscapes.FLOW 1, hosted by MIRC at Kingston University in 2011 explored interior and landscape as they relate to the transference of thoughts and ideas across disciplinary boundaries and cultures. FLOW 2 is concerned with the theoretical and practice-based examination of historical and contemporary interiors and landscapes, particularly where new ideologies emerge that are shaped by corporate, political and ecological initiatives.Fluid urban conditions such as supermodern public spaces – international airports, shopping malls, urban plazas and post-industrial parks – render problematic the relatively simple dualities of 'inside' and 'outside', 'private' and 'public', 'domestic' and 'non-domestic' and 'place' and 'non-place'. Likewise global concerns such as climate variability, economic instability and transnationalism are similarly informing discussion about design, occupation and conservation, particularly where local ecologies and practices are impacted by the flow of change.Venue
